It premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on August 30, 2019, and was released on November 15, 2019 (United States) by 20th Century Fox. The film won the 2019 Hollywood Film Awards for "Director of the Year" (James Mangold) and 2 Oscars.
Filming took place in New Orleans, Louisiana; California; Atlanta; Savannah; Statesboro, Georgia; and Le Mans, France. Ontario International Airport in Ontario, Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, and Agua Dulce Airpark in Agua Dulce were also used in the film.

The Ford Mustang launch event was filmed at Gen. William J. Fox Airfield, in Lancaster, CA. The car showroom was in the airport terminal with the outside stage and Ford sign on the terminal lawn.
